In all the countries where it has a presence, Vale Inco, a business that has been in existence for one hundred years, has always been keen to establish a lasting relationship and to contribute to the development of the communities neighbouring its facilities. In addition to the creation of jobs, to assistance in constructing infrastructures of collective interest and improving the local economy, it has assumed the responsibility of investing in improving the quality of life in these communities. Vale Inco Nouvelle-Calédonie shares this same philosophy and is asserting its responsibility as a citizen by respecting in particular the natural and human environment in which it is developing.
Vale Inco Nouvelle-Calédonie is a huge project for New Caledonia, the first of its scale to be built in one go. It is also the first project to be carried out by a multinational, and this at a time when the entire international mining industry is being turned upside down by a consolidation phase that is making it unstable. Lastly, it is a project that is taking shape against a background of political unrest, related to the implementation of the Noumea Accord that is making both the plant in the South and the plant in the North tools in a play for power and social demands, symbols of New Caledonia's inevitable but also brutal initiation to the arena of globalization.
But Vale Inco Nouvelle-Calédonie remains convinced that its project, whilst representing a real advantage for Vale Inco, is also a unique opportunity for growth in New Caledonia. Furthermore, the company firmly believes that the project will only be a success if the local community gives it their backing and participates in it fully. Vale Inco Nouvelle-Calédonie remains open to dialogue and discussion and is counting on everyone realising the validity of its project that respects the principle of sustainable development so that it can find its just place at the heart of the country's development.
