Vale Inco Nouvelle-Calédonie
IMPACT ON THE ECONOMY
FRAMEWORK FOR PROMOTING BENEFITS LOCALLY

Through shared objectives and a concerted effort at every stage, Vale Inco Nouvelle-Calédonie will manage the project in such a way that it is as advantageous to New Caledonia as it is to the company.

During the construction phase, Vale Inco Nouvelle-Calédonie will make sure that it involves local companies and workers, from neighbouring communities in the main, but also more widely within the South, as much as possible.

Coordination centres

Vale Inco Nouvelle-Calédonie has established two information centres in the employment areas of Yaté and Mont-Dore. In collaboration with the employment and training service for the province, the purpose of these coordination centres, is to make sure that use of the local labour market and businesses is optimised. The centres bring together job seekers who are interested in the project and companies involved in construction of the industrial complex.

In close collaboration with the administrative services involved, a third centre has also been opened in Nouméa-a coordination centre for businesses. This centre assists both local and international subcontractors in recruiting local labour and also puts companies in touch with each other for subcontracting purposes. It therefore makes sure that genuine efforts are made to engage the local skills base before opportunities are offered to workers and companies from overseas.

Local involvement during the mining phase

Vale Inco Nouvelle-Calédonie will generate a significant volume of purchase during mining. Although many materials will be imported, New Caledonia will be able to supply Vale Inco Nouvelle-Calédonie with large volumes of many products and services.
Companies from New Caledonia are already major suppliers of the materials and services required for construction of the southern factory.
