TRAINING COURSES

 

To facilitate training, Vale Inco New-Caledonia has developed a personalised training course which can be adapted to individuals according to their existing knowledge and skills. In this way, according to an individual’s profile, whether he is newly qualified, has no experience in the jobs offered or already has some experience, a developmental programme and mentoring will be offered.

Furthermore, it has set up courses preparatory to university degrees, mainly in mathematics, chemistry and technical English, to provide those who did not complete their final year at school with the opportunity to qualify for specialised training.

Tailored training programmes are thus being offered for the 10 careers which are high volume jobs at Goro Nickel:

Mining

1. Operator of mining plant

Involved in the development of a terraced mine, providing the operation of oversized mining plant.

The port

2. Logistics operator

Involved in the loading and unloading of ships and provides heavy goods driving for the transportation, delivery and storage of goods in designated locations.

The factory

3. Process operator

Supervises the operations relating to his department ensuring that production parameters are adhered to and that equipment is working properly.

4. Plant controller

Guides plant using a surveillance screen. Responsible for detecting operating problems. Maintains the circuits of his department in accordance with predetermined parameters, in liaison with operators.

5. Maintenance mechanic

Anticipates and deals with all mechanical failures of equipment and plant for the continuous operation of production tools.

6. Maintenance electrician

Maintains close watch on electrical and electro-mechanical equipment. Plans ahead to keep plant working and optimises continuous functioning.

7. Instrument engineer

Designs, installs and maintains the plan of instruments necessary to measure processes and to control equipment.

8. Laboratory analyst

Prepares and analyses samples from the mine, the process, utilities and environment, hygiene and safety departments.

9. Pipe-fitter

Produces and assembles metal or plastic tubes and installs them following an overall plan. He carries out line tests (testing watertightness and pressure).

10. Welder

Assembles various components by fusion or by adding metal, and using welding processes and appropriate equipment. Single or sometimes series welding, following plans.

According to the candidate's skills profile, a developmental and tailored mentoring programme will be offered for these ten jobs.

Recent graduates

Jobs: Process operator, plant controller, laboratory analyst, instrument engineer, maintenance electrician and maintenance mechanic.

  • Additional training programme (university diploma in industrial engineering; university diploma in metallurgy or university diploma in chemical analysis)
  • Participation in the assembly stage (maintenance jobs) and role playing in the field
  • Specific training (including pilot plant) and participation in the commissioning of equipment
  • Validation in post/launch of factory

Jobseekers without experience in our jobs

Training Centres

Aiming for the development of skills in New Caledonia, Inco has implemented a training programme costing 5 million US dollars (500 million CFP), including the creation of a training centre. Over one hundred people have already benefited each year from training programmes offered, occupying posts in the construction (reorientation jobs) and operation of the factory.
