TRAINING PARTNERS

To ensure individualised training, Vale Inco Nouvelle-Calédonie has been working in close partnership with the training organisations in New Caledonia since 2002, when work at the site began.

CFTMC

Institutions specialised in mining jobs, such as the CFTMC (Centre for Training in Mining and Quarry Methods) in Poro: operators of mining plant, distributors, drill, pump and welding operators, blaster.

National education

The Ministry of National Education and its educational establishments (vocational high schools): plant directors, maintenance mechanics, maintenance electricians, control and measuring equipment engineers and pipe-workers.

ETFPA and Ministry of Work

The ETFPA (Territorial Establishment for Professional Training for Adults) and the Ministry of Work: refresher training and training for jobs in mining and commercial factories (machine operators, pipe-workers, etc.).

L'UNC

University of New Caledonia : agreement signed on 6 December 2002 for the implementation of a university diploma in metallurgy. Vale Inco Nouvelle-Calédonie regularly meets with all its partners in education and training, to follow closely and coordinate training programmes. The company is also involved with schools, participating in informative events on jobs and training: careers fairs, forums, student shows, etc.

Employment organisations

Various employment organisations are also supporting these efforts by encouraging the dissemination of information and by evaluating and preparing interested candidates before training or recruitment. These organisations include:

  • MIJ, Mission for the employment of young people, in Southern Province
  • IDCNC, Employment Agency
  • SEF, Job and Training Service, in Southern Province
  • Mission Cadres Avenir, Mission for Jobs and the Future

Internal training

As well as the development of pre-recruitment training programmes linked to commercial activities, Vale Inco Nouvelle-Calédonie offers its employees the opportunity to develop their skills by way of specific training tailored to their job.

Programmes have been in place since 2002, when work at the site commenced, subsequently suspended until 2005.

June- November 2002             Metallurgy – improving knowledge of chemistry and process                                       control for 26 operators in the pilot plant

Teaching programme developed and courses provided in collaboration with the University of New Caledonia (UNC)

July - September 2002 Chemical analysis for the benefit of 8 assistants and assistant analysts in the pilot plant's laboratory – UNC

May 2002 – June 2003 Certificate for mining plant operator (tipcart, bulldozer, shovel) for 5 assistant samplers – CFTMC, Poro
