Staff health and safety are core concerns at Vale Inco Nouvelle-Calédonie. The most rigorous policies and procedures, drawn from international best practices for health and safety, have been implemented to safeguard every employee's health and safety at all times.
Vale Inco Nouvelle-Calédonie moreover believes that, although the company indeed bears a share of the responsibility, it is first and foremost up to each and every employee to ensure that they adopt daily work practices that endanger neither their own health or safety nor that of their colleagues.
Since all aspects of any project are inter-related, an integrated policy has been put in place, the Quality, Health, Safety, Security and Environment policy or QHSSE policy.
Preventing accidents is our top priority. Risk analysis, based on our skills, our knowledge, our system and our determination, can be used to identify the causes of accidents.
Our watchword must be vigilance at all times, both on our own behalf and on that of our colleagues. We have an individual and collective duty to ensure our work is carefully prepared and planned and to maintain a safe work environment.
« Thinking safety » means developing our personal awareness, caring about out own and others’ safety, ensuring our daily involvement in all aspects of safety (risk analysis, identifying causes of accidents, audits, safety meetings, emphasising positive aspects, etc.).
To protect yourself is to protect others, every moment, everywhere.
By pooling our skills, our knowledge, our organisational ability and our professional diligence, we can anticipate risks and avoid them. We each of us have a duty to do everything we can to make work a safe place.
Each of us should take as much care of our colleagues as we do of the members of our own family.
We should each have the means and resources to work in safety. Everyone is responsible for applying safety rules and procedures. We have a duty to report any situation likely to jeopardise the safety of people or property.
All measures taken to ensure equipment and workplace safety and personal protection must be adapted to meet our mining and industrial work requirements. Every identified risk must be matched by a specific measure integral to our organisation, including a risk prevention and control system.
Management has a responsibility to ensure that all staff are adequately trained to perform their own work. Employees have a responsibility to practice what they have learnt during training when they perform their work.
We at Vale Inco Nouvelle-Calédonie know that taking part in our safety program ensures its success and contributes significantly to ensuring our company’s across-the-board success. A workplace where no accidents or incidents happen is a great place to work. It is a source of pride for the company and its employees, both on the inside and from the outside.
